Act 1, Scene 1
In just over ten days, I’ll be taking a month off from my full-time job to play one of the leads in a film called “Bachelors of Fine Arts”, an independent comedy to be released later this year. Although I have acting experience in a bunch of other projects, this will be my first time shooting all day, seven days a week until we’re done.
The director of this movie happened to catch a few episodes of Circles, a webseries that a buddy and I co-created and co-starred in, and brought me in to talk about the script he’d written. We hit it off pretty well, and ended up talking for almost 3 hours about the movie, acting and The Golden Girls. He gave me the script to take home and read over, and if I’m interested, to make an audition tape (which I did). After a few phone calls, and another face-to-face meeting, I was offered the part of “Todd”… one of the three main characters. But could I get the whole month of February off from work?
To my surprise, my time-off request was promptly granted. My supervisors and co-workers have all been completely supportive, and basically told me that I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. I signed my contract without delay and started preparing for the role.
The next ten days will be crazy; memorizing my lines, while trying to wrap up everything at work, and packing everything I need to live out of a hotel room for a month.
More to come,
Brandon
